On May 6, 2010, the Gfeller family went to Chapel Hill for the dedication of the Stallings-Evans Sports Medicine Building. Inside that building is the Matthew Gfeller Sports-Related Traumatic Brain Injury Research Center, the first and best of its kind on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, right across from Keenan Football Stadium.
Our family has pledged and donated a sum of money to this center in order to help other student athletes who suffer brain injuries recover and flourish and to prevent future injury. This center will serve not only the UNC community, but also the local high schools, and universities all over the country through a network of sports medicine professionals and trainers who are doing all kinds of research to help this cause.
We are very proud to have taken part in the effort at UNC Chapel Hill and will continue to invest our time and treasure into this facility and the research it is doing to prevent sports related catastrophic brain injuries. Kevin Guskiewicz is the nation’s leader in his field and we are blessed to be able to work with him and his very able team.
We know that Matt is looking down on us and he is proud of us. We have pledged to him that we will NOT let him down.
Peace and Love.
